Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Interesting. One of the reasons I loaded up with scovies was wanting to use them to brood chicken eggs.
Zero luck with turkey, guinea and chickens! So I'd given up the idea and went with an incubator - and you come in here and say they hatched for you! hmmmm Maybe I'm just not holding my mouth right!

I've got one broody scovie right now. I put 4 Pekin/Pekin mix eggs under her along with one of her own eggs (which disappeared - I think one of my broody chickens stole it). I'm not sure if the eggs were fertile or not, the Pekins they came from are still pretty young. And the drakes trying to mount them are way smaller, lol. 2 Rouens and an Indian Runner mix. They are half the Pekins size!!! I'm not sure they 'did the job'. But my pied black scovy mama is happy on her eggs for now. They've got 2 more weeks to bake.
I removed my other mama scovy from her ducklings. She is NOT a happy camper. She parked herself right outside the pen and stays there. I did try to move the drake out, also, but my other drake Razzy chased him all over for about 1/2 an hour. I finally put him back in with the ducklings and he seems fine. The ducklings snuggled up to him earlier and he was good with it. And I was able to take the orphaned scovy out of the bin in my basement and put it with the others, finally. It's much happier being outside with the others, though I had taken one of Mama's ducklings and put it in with the orphan so that it wasn't alone. Mama scovy had kept attacking it when I tried to integrate it with her brood. So all seems good (for now, lol). I may have to do 2 separate duck pens - one for Razzy and his 2 girls and one for Count Chocula and his 2 girls. Unless they can learn to get along . . .

I doubt they will ever actually get along, my 2 drakes have learned to stay out of each others way.

Grrr! No pictures of mine right now, but I'll try to get some soon. I've got about 14 adults and something like 40 ducklings right now. Nice pictures everybody!

I think we need a group shot when you get the chance.

and Welcome.

My scovies have hatched off chicken eggs. my mama scovie done really good i just had to take them so she wouldnt leave her eggs. I had 2 others that hatched off chicks but they would get up off the nest before they were even dry(first hatch) the adult chickens would hear it and run in and grab it. I lost around 10 chicks that way. I sold all but 3 of my large fowl chickens. I rather have my scovies!

Haha, thanks Miss Lydia! And crissycriss, our muscovies have hatched about a dozen Pekin ducks and the rest are Muscovies. We also have two Muscovies nesting right now. Yep, they sure do make good parents, that's why we have so many ducklings!

Hopefully I'll have those pictures up by tomorrow.

Look forward to seeing them. Do you raise for meat having so many?

We mostly do it for the meat, but we also eat some of the eggs. We're trying to sell some of the ducklings off now...not the best bird to raise for profit, but they sure do taste good!

Our two new muscovies are nearly fully grown now! The (hopeful) drake and his girlfriend :) I think they're going through a bit of a moult though...they look so scruffy! Hopefully the drake will start mating with our other female muscovy soon so I can hatch some ducklings. I can't wait to see what they look like!
