Muscovy keepers share your pics!

The black scovies seem to be much more photogenic for some reason. I almost brought home a solid black boy a while back...he was SO pretty. but i knew i didnt need another one, lol. Now if there were no such thing as coyotes, owl, hawks & eagles, I would just have a whole bunch running all over the place

I just had to let everyone out for a while again today..I've started to notice slugs (

) since everyone's been penned up.

These are not mine, I am just watching them for a BYC'er that is between real estate right now. Luckily for me the barred girl decided to start setting some eggs for me in the meantime!!!

Wow - why are they so heavy underneath?? My white drake and hen are about 4 months old and are skinny minnies compared to those white guys!

They are big! Wow. My hens are undersized according to the standard. How much do your Drakes way?

Goat_Walker, they are what we here in aus call Mammoth Muscovies. They are bred for depth, length, size etc, so a nice deep underline is a part of what we look for.

houndit, drakes are often up around 9kg. The bird pictured is only young & probably weighs around the 8kg mark. Most of my ducks are around 4.7kg.

Cheers

WOW! They are pretty, but I like how my drake waddles when he runs rather than how my fat hen kind of slides from side to side when she walks. Really cool birds though.

Hmm.... If we have mammoth scovies I wonder if someone could breed call sized scovies... ?

Quote:
Wow ! Did I convert that right 9 kg = 19.84 pound drakes and 4.7 kg = 10.36 pounds ducks

Man, I'd like to get me some of those mammoth muscovies... do you all have the skinny plain kind like we all have here in the US too, or is mammoth the dominant variety?
