Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Hi everyone

Just did a quick check of my records & one drake was 9.3kg (that’s 20.5 pounds). Ducks are between 4.7 & 4.9 kg @ 15 months old. Onthespot, yes we do have skinny mussies here also, but those that show them usually go for the larger birds. Larger mussies are often quieter (as in tame) then some of the smaller birds, although, as you will know if you keep them, they are mostly a friendly breed.

I love some of the colours you guys have over there in the states. We don't get the ripples & chocolates here. We have a bonze bird that is similiar though, but not that nice choc cololur of your birds. I think you also have buff which are not here, or at least not common.

There is so much to read on this site, but alas, so little time in the day

Cheers:)

rollyard, those are Beautiful!

I'd like to have a big, fat, blue Mammoth Muscovy

Beautiful Muscovies! I am surprized at how fast they get the red face; the middle photo- at 4 months old with a red face, we have 7 month old hens that don't have nearly that much red yet.

Here is one of our Chocolate drakes, he is one of my favorites, I did raise some that looked like him also; so my question is:

Is he just a mixed pattern or is there a name for this pattern. A friend said he was a mottled.

I would also like to know if anyone has muscovies colored like him or has any Buff muscovies:
if you do please email me.

spectrumranch,

Do you sell eggs from the drake & hen you posted? If so please let me know how much for a dozen. Theyre both gorgeous.

I've only seen 1 other muscovy like your drake, it was a couple years ago and she didnt have as much mottling. I had a couple buff ones last year, but rehomed them.

spectrumranch, your drake is very pretty. I don't know about mottled pattern (is there a gene for mottling in Muscovy?). I would guess he is a homozygous recessive (sex-linked) chocolate, with heterozygous dominant white + Canizie (white head) pattern.

The buff is a lovely colour also. What a shame we don't see that here (to my knowledge)

Cheers

he certainly looks mottled to me! What a spectacular looking drake! And it couldn't have hatched in more competent, capable hands than yours!!! Hey, sometimes things just work out okay...

I love that drake!
I once had a female almost exactly like yours. I thought she was so beautiful. She was hatched randomly kind of like a sport. I kept her of course. I hoped to get more. A fox killed her. I was so angry. I have been wanting a Chocolate drake since as I think that is what caused it. I hope I have some like that again. She is beautiful.

Thanks everyone. Last year I did not seperate my muscovies because we did not have enough pen space. But this spring I am planning on seperating them, so I will have the chocolate mottled male with a few hens by himself. I will probably be selling eggs from them.

Here is a photo of a young male (in the center) that I hope will color out like the drake above. It took the drake above over a year to color out with the mottling; this young one has some mottling on his flank already.
