Muscovy keepers share your pics!

trying to upload a good new pic of Duckie lol

Got one. Duckie taking a bath in her little pool the other day.

She took 2 days off laying, but I found a new egg this morning. I dont let her roam unattended due to neighbor dogs, so I know she hasnt hid any. I built her little house, and found it funny that she doesnt poop in it since she began laying?! but boy does she ever poop when she comes out! her house is 16 Sq ft, just big enough for her nest box and food and water dishes, and for her to walk around between everything. I had to make it small enough to be portable for now. When I find her friend, I will build a nest box off of the back of it so I can take the temporary box out of the inside. next year will probably build a bigger house so we can have more ducks.
Very pretty.

Duckie in her house...

Looks like she likes her house.. she so cute

@mymoneypit,
Cute dickies, and I'm interested to see the inside of scovy duck duck house for plans for own smaller duck duck houses.

@buck oaks,
I've seen protien ect deficiencies in peoples parrots, songbirds, and chickens, cause this problem, but ruling out lack of plant and/or animal proteins, essential oils fatty acids and vit E, i wouldn't keep breeding from any animal that has in fam history. or you could try toys and more enrichment if its simple boredom, and not physical skin trouble, or psyc trouble.

@jharper,
I'm a novice scovy keeper but i guessed correct with all but one duckling (thought my sweet lil girl Candace was a drake) of my first brood of dozen ducklets. I went the second week i think, by how was told of legs and feet thicker wider ect, width thickness of bills, head and neck thickness and size, the males already would raise crests in down more and snake heads (or walk like an Egyptian. Lalalala ..lol). Males laid aroun and just plopped more, not running as much or as far as girls. girls perched more were boys laid around down on ground more off logs ect. females scooted along smoother than clumsier boys. their were very subtle body shape differences, especially the tail and wings. males started feathering in days sooner. males ate a lot more. these all in exception to my sweet fatty Candace of course who was clumsy lazy and eats like a wittle piggle still. she runs quacking to me for food petting and protection from others who pic on her, and brings me garbage from road or were ever even coughing up soda caps ect at my feet. i clean well around several acres but am right on main hwy with no fence but all animals, but two ducks one dog and one cat, don't go onto road as taught. I'm renting close to fam now but trying to own. was quiet and so, not more than a half dozen cars a day, out here before recent trailer parks were put in.. probly more I'm forgetting or getting mixed up that others more experienced can clear up. seems so and way too long ago..

Here's my 3 :)

Question: I've been trying to readearch what their coloration is called.. would you say that I have a black pied drake, a lavender? or blue? pied duck and a chocolate bibbed duck?

Good looking ducks you got there! How old are they?

I would call the two in the back pied, and the one in front chocolate. Pied can come in different variations, the most common being black, but lavender and blue are also possible.

The pied ones are 8/9 months and the chocolate is a year or 2. I love my pied duck, she has blue eyes and I dont see that very often around here :)

Like no its not genetic i think and it's not any kind of vitamin or protein diffency they are perfectly healthy I think it's just because they were in a small box, they started feather eating which is a form of cannibalism due to stress temperature or confinement and because they were so little I didn't think the would need anything but a 2 ft to 4 ft box but apparently they did so I switched them to a bigger brooder box it's 5ft by 6ft and they were so happy and they started exploring and leaving their fluff alone and there so much less stressed and the fluff already grew back a little I think or he's covering it up but either way there happy now

Also every few days I take them outside so they can learn where they can and can't go because they remember everywhere their mother takes them and also I take them out so the other ducks can see that there are more babies, an just to add I raise my ducks free range ,no duck houses or pens unless a duck is injured or has babies then all of then are free to roam the farm. So i let them know hen there at babies becuase then they feel like they need to protect each other and the nests and also I gets them broody

Interesting that their faces are still partially feathered, mine developed their masks at the age of six to seven months...appearently theres quite some variation in the maturing process...what is their behaviour like? Do they already act like mature birds?

Im sorry I miscalculated-they just turned 7 months. As for them acting like mature birds, I've never seen the drake try to mate with the pied duck, but I just got the chocolate duck a week ago and when I put her in their it seemed like he tried to mate her for a minute, but that was it. Other than that the pied ones will pick on the chocolate from time but I figured that was normal considering shes new.

I also wondered why mine didnt have much of a mask but I guess I just assumed theirs wouldnt be as big as others..
