I thought about this post for a bit, and i am trying to remain objective, perhaps this is not your intent but is that what your directing at me? Yes, i do see trouble with nets because of their claws, anyone who has Muscovy knows those claws are something else and catch and hook on many things that is why i said be careful, they are not your "typical duck" in this regard so are not like netting say my calls or Pekin, no one is set in any way but i am not going mention cautions on methods, anyone can be reading these threads and not realize the risks with each method. It's fine you see trouble grabbing with nets. I see trouble grabbing in a corner. One method does not suit everyone. If you can corner and catch, fine. My ducks are not handled enough for that method and I have NO intention of doing so just so I can look like a super nice person who is a duck whisperer. Netting is used by many people for duck catching and it works perfectly well. I agreed that cornering, grabbing, netting, anything but leg hooking, was fine. It's too bad people are so set in their own worlds that they cannot see there is another way of doing things. Personally, I don't care how people catch their ducks. I was just answering how I caught my ducks and how the breeder caught them when I bought them. If the questioner liked the method, fine. If not, perhaps he/she can try your method and see if they end up scarred and bleeding like their friend. It really does not matter to me—though I am sure it does to said person. They can choose what they want to do and hopefully will not believe theirs is the only "proper" method.
The original start to this comment line was: "Best way to catch muscovy ducks? My bf tried to pick up one of my silver ones, and it ripped him up really well and he was dripping blood and has a good sized scar."I thought about this post for a bit, and i am trying to remain objective, perhaps this is not your intent but is that what your directing at me? I never said any of that however, this is what i wroteThe original start to this comment line was: "Best way to catch muscovy ducks? My bf tried to pick up one of my silver ones, and it ripped him up really well and he was dripping blood and has a good sized scar."
The poster was asking about how to catch muscovies and was very aware of the danger. You were quite clear about needing protective gear. I did not read you statement "I would never use a net" as a caution but rather as saying "no one should ever use a net" because you would not. That was not your intent, it seems, so ignore my comment, please.
It does make clear that any comment that is not on the current page may be a waste of time after the next page pulls up. Maybe that's why the new threads are always being started. I guess most blogs have that problem.
Sounds like you have a lilac duck. These are a combo of blue and chocolate genes. They usually look blue when they first molt and have new feathers, but fade to a light brown colorcool, i try to breed pure white heads lol ! and solid colors are hard to get, i had this pure chocolate girl right and then when molt came around she started to turn blue! Blue of all colors!, and now she looks like a little puddle!, So it is really had to get solids.
What you said was " i would NEVER grab by legs and nets with those claws?" There is no comma in that sentence that would indicate the NEVER would apply only to the grabbing by legs.I never said any of that however, this is what i wrote
"nets with those claws? i see trouble, be very careful" and continued on to state how a breeder i got a duck from literately yanked some of hers out by trying to catch her. NO WHERE did i ever say i would not use a net, nor no one should as a matter of fact i never broad statement in my post whatsoever.
Beautiful ducks! Do you have Anconas and muscovys? I spy what looks like an ancona in the back. They are all beautiful and I love all the different colors you have!
