Muscovy keepers share your pics!

oh my gosh wouldn't that be awesome seeing a wild muscovy where the species originated! gosh that makes me jealous!!!!!!

Yes yes that would be completely awesome!!!!! But I'm not going to South Americe any time soon what a bummer :( maybe some day! :)

Wild Muscovies are pure black with only little bits of white on there wings(depending on age it may range in size)and there caruncles are almost completely black showing very little red flesh and the breed originates in South America and lots still live wildly there in Storeys Guide To Raising Ducks by Dave Holderead he got to see a true wild Muscovy of South America I envy his experience of seeing a true wild Muscovy!

So why do domestic Muscovies have red caruncles? I saw a picture once of a muscovy drake who's caruncles were black with a red edge he was beautiful.

By the way how do you pronounce caruncles?

Well maybe it was accidentally bred out of domesticated Muscovies so many are bred for the color of their feathers so maybe they didn't notice the change of color in their caruncles(spelled exactly like you did)why are some Muscovies have overly large caruncling I'm not really sure it must be accidental my drake Lewis has black speckles on his caruncles small but there's more as he grows.
