I have a feeling you are right on the ones u vent sexed. I vent sexed mine and was right on all of them. Good luck!! And I have noticed my male duckling had much bigger heads and legs than the females.

Ok, I tried sexing them. I thought four were boys and six were girls. When I picked them out of the original 19 I tried to pick more of the smaller ones than bigger ones.

I found penises on only 3 of them. One either fooled me or is hiding it. And of course I could be wrong on the ones I thought were girls. I banded them all so I can keep track and see how right I was. So here goes.

These are the ones that are boys.

These are the ones I think are girls. The one that possibly fooled me is the one in the very front.







I really looked for a bit and couldn't find any evidence of this little chocolate being a boy.

This is a good opportunity to see how well I really am at vent sexing.

I am completely new to Muscovys.  I just noticed that some of my ducklings have slightly thicker heads.  Maybe I will try vent sexing them and seeing if the two I checked were just flukes and lucky guesses.

Ah cool, the lady I got mine from said someone who got some of them checked head shape to pick out the ones they wanted. I am pretty sure most of the 6 I got my second trip are boys, but they are really pretty colored. The first 4 I picked up were smaller overall and look more delicate featured and thinner legs so I have my fingers crossed Lol. I may try venting them later once they go into the shed for the night.

I really needed just hens but couldn't pass on chocolate and barred drakes.

One is a Barred Chocolate. And one looks white, only one, but the genetics shouldn't be there for a white duckling. She was the only light one out of both clutches. So I took her hoping she is some very pretty Barred Color. 8 out of 19 ducklings were barred, 9 were chocolate, 1 was black and there was the one super light one. She has the same color down as all the other barred ones too.

Hopefully I will know more soon.

Oh Muscovies can inherit traits from deep with in their heredity, white can pop up in blue parents or even black premed it just means somewhere in the line an ancestor was either white or pied

I realize white can pop up fairly easily. I am crossing my fingers for something exotic though.

I read that having a darker yellow down can indicate something other than white. For now it will be a mystery I guess.
