Hey guys another question. I was doing some research and found that their caruncles change color when they go broody. Is this true?
My broody's carnucles do get paler when brooding but once the are through and get back to laying again they red up pretty quick.

Just like through winter when not breeding and laying.

Heading down to Kingston, OK today to sell Buddy to a couple that want him for breeding purposes. Wish I didn't have to, but he's too sexually aggressive with my 5 girls. They're old and have never been around a male, so his attempts to mate with the girls were terrifying them. It would have been cruel to leave him in with them. If I kept him he'd have to be separated and by himself all the time and I don't want that for him. He needs to be around others of his own kind that can handle him. I'm really bummed out about it, but it's what's best for him and the girls.

Do your ducks not bother the flowers??

Hi Ren2014. They really don't bother them much. They have their favorites in the yard like borage, chicory, raspberry, gogi berry, blue berry, grapes and my veggie beds which need protection. I buy lettuce seed in 1lb. bulk bags from eden brothers seed online when it goes on sale. For 19 dollars my yard this spring started to look like it was carpeted in lettuce. They still haven't eaten it all. When the weather gets hot it will all be toast though. My biggest problem with the ducks is not them nibbling. They knock over stiff stemmed plants like sun flowers, hollyhocks and oriental lilies, snapping the stem. You would think I had just lost a child, if you saw me holding up one of my mangeled, broken, about to bloom stargazers lilies. I'm starting to figure out the main duck trails in the garden and only plant flexible web traffic friendly plants on them. They also love noodling around in the soft amended soil around newly planted flowers. To the extent of pulling them out or leaving them high and dry in a empty pit.
Still, ducks are great in the flower garden. I used to have real issues with slugs, snails, pill bugs, cut worms, grubs... you name it. Not anymore. The poop doesn't burn, disappears right into the soil and the plants love it. I also reuse the poopy water from their swimming pools on the flowerbeds. I don't have real grass lawns, so any grass in my yard is a weed, luckily the ducks like eating it so my two biggest weeds, grass and dandilyons are primo duck chow. Plus they are fun gardening companions. Eggs and ducklings, nuff said.

Sorry to hear that but Buddy will be happier for sure. We do what we have to to keep our girls safe and the flock happy.

hi guys. my scovy drake shakes when he can see my silver Swedish female and I was just wondering what it is that he is doing. he tries to kill it most of the time so I put up a ply wood divider in the coop but he still shakes when he hears her. now she is really sick and cat even stand sometimes. but my blue Swedish female does just fine around him. my silver Swedish was the runt of the clutch. does that have anything to do with it?

I felt good about the people I gave him to today. They seemed to really care about the muscovies they keep and they have a nice big pond and a lot of young females that I'm sure he's going to take to immediately the way he did my girls. I trust they have his best interest at heart. The people I bought Buddy from kept him in a small swampy cage crammed together with about 30 other ducks. A few were sick. I'm surprised there weren't more like that. I'm glad he's gonna have a great new environment to thrive in now.

That's great hopefully he'll fit right in. You mean you didn't bring home another girl.
