Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Their ages varied, Farm I had since 6th grade, as well as Mallard, Crest was born on April 11 2014, Smew on July 31 2014, and Celeste on August 22 2014

And I know it wasn't a dog, no holes were dug, it climbed over, so raccoon or bobcat
I am so sorry! It's terrible not to know what did it! How do you keep it out if you don't know what it was? Again...so sorry!

Did you get Fred some friends?

Sorry I haven't been checking in much I have a pinched nerve in my arm which is making computer use hard.
No, not yet at least. GEES it's hard finding anything his age. I'm going tomorrow to look at some and some hatchlings

Something got them

I had them in the backyard ( the fenced off part) instead of putting them up bc their pen/coop was muddy ( it's open air, and I didn't put on the roof when it rained) so I left them in the backyard and something got them
hit.gif
my grandmother told me after school when I got over here and she was nice enough to put them in the freezer for me before I bury them
hit.gif
I took them out and held them one last time, whatever got them it only ate one, the other 4 it just killed
hit.gif
no reason at all, it wasn't even hungry just I don't know

sorry for the long paragraph

My heart goes out to you. I lost one this week also and whatever got it just killed her and the eggs she was sitting on.

Dogs can climb/jump over also. Check this out if you haven't already... https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/18670/poultry-predator-identification "Chickens or ducks found dead in the yard, but without any missing parts, were likely attacked by a dog. Dogs kill for sport. When the bird stops moving, the dog loses interest, which is why you often find the victim of a canine attack near where it was killed."

That's just it, I don't know, but they weren't up last night, they were in an area I thought would be safe, I was wrong. It's all my fault

Don't beat yourself up. You did what you thought was the best for them at the time. We all make mistakes.

It's when we don't learn from them that matters.

Thanks, but for sure it wasn't a dog, fence is way to tall plus I don't think the dog could have gotten back out, but thanks for the info about the dogs :)

ok,I must have set the calender late.but I don't think so.two of my broody muscovys eggs are already showing shadows on the outer edge of the air cell.and it's only day 26
Have they dipped down already? Some eggs can be ahead of the others by a day or two so I wouldn't worry. The shadows are usually caused by the duck getting into the hatching position so if they are just starting to show I'm betting you have another 24 hr+ or so to internal pip
