I have a Muscovy male who just went through a molt, now he seems to be keeping away from all the other muscovies (which he normally stays with them), he’s actually letting me pet him and today i noticed one of the runner male ducks chasing him and trying to mate my Muscovy male (my Muscovy is always the top male duck of the group but he looked like he was sumbitting to the runner male and let him get on top of him as if he was mating my Muscovy male) I’m unsure if it could be normal and related to him molting and being just tired from growing feathers with the temperatures fluctuating and getting chilly and with the hormones which is why he was sumbitting, staying to himself, and kinda just hanging out but they all do great together so I’m genuinely confused any tips would be great!!

One of my muscovy drakes has just had a major molt; his flight feathers are still pin feathers, coming through. He is behaving like your boy. This is normal.

My drake is normally boss duck. He started being grouchy -- change in his behavior -- two weeks before his feathers started dropping. He stopped hanging out with the others, preferring to hide under a tree near the coop or in the coop. I have found him being stood on by one of the other drakes. Mine was like this with his last molting. I am giving him extra protein treats.

Molting and refeathering is a big nutritional stress on ducks. They feel miserable until it is all over and other ducks will take advantage and try to rise in the pecking order. Your boy will re-exert himself in the pecking order and return to his normal behavior with you, when he is refeathered.

Is it normal for him to seem kinda sluggish? Like he stumbled once or twice this morning when i went to check but he definitely seems grumpy doesn’t want anyone near him what treats do you offer? I was going to do blueberries and mealworms
