I just got my second Muscovy duck and she isn’t repelling water at all. I don’t see mites, I’m unsure if her oil gland looks okay? And a picture of my other one next to her. My other one just swam and is nearly dry but this new one is soaking wet.

The skin seemed to be okay, not a ton of oil feeling. Not overly yellow either from what I can tell. I contacted the man I got her from and he said that she had a rather muddy pond so that would likely be why?? I gave her a bath with gentle soap and blow dried her and she’s doing allot of preening. They sure are pretty, when you had your finger there did you feel oil from the preen gland? and can you see yellowish oil around the preen gland? Do you know if where she lived before she had bathing water if they don't bathe they really don't preen much so she will start once she gets into a pool or pond where she can really get a good bath. Also feed her some extra protein which is very good for feathers. My Muscovy love dry dog food as a treat. They eat the same as my dachshund which is for small dogs so they can eat it without choking. Some people use cat food. Just makes sure it is good quality if you offer either.
