Mushroom foragers

Pics
Mine was not there...Or I did not find the right tree....

Nice find
Hey you..I just found this thread, didn't know you're a shroomie too!! I'm just learning and have harvested a few out here on our place but I don't know any one close that I could learn from and have a hard time comparing them to pics in books. This is too awesome. I hope you don't mind if I hang out a bit and learn from y'all.

I just discovered this thread. You have my attention...BYC never ceases to amaze me.
Perfect morning!.GardenTillers44.jpg

I think also -DO NOT EAT ANY WILD MUSHROOM!

That is a bold statement. There are a lot of easy to identify safe mushrooms that taste delicious. Even the lowly puffball can be eaten. It is in my top three for taste.

Welcome to BYC and to this thread, with luck we can convert you into a fungi eater.

Welcome to the thread.

I'm hoping to find another lion's mane... Didn't eat it, it was past prime but as big as a dinner plate. I don't have the pic on this phone but one of the kids might have one on theirs.
I'll find out! :)

Found a beautiful Hen OTW the other day on an oak stump. Sorry, no pic, we ate it before it could run away! We've been enjoying the giant puffballs sliced and sauteed and in omelets, some are 6-8" in diameter. Heading to the UP in late September where we usually find loads of chanterelles in the bogs. Then it's shaggy manes in October for our last fresh pickings of the year. We are building a greenhouse and I'm wondering if I can cultivate oysters or shitakes year round. Anybody do "grow-your own"? I just had a large white oak blow down a couple weeks ago and it is just screaming at me to cultivate shrooms.

My chanterelle spot was a 'bust' this year north of us. Just returned from camping. Too dry of a summer season for those chanterelles, I guess. Some forager I follow on other social media is reporting lobsters and black trumpets in spots she would never have thought though...so maybe there is hope for other varieties. Raining right now....
Poor conditions for eclipse watching, good for mushroom growing.
