I got started hunting mushrooms recently because of some people on our state thread doing it.

I have found I really enjoy it. And REALLY like the way they taste.

I thought I would try to start a thread for anyone that hunts them or has thought about hunting them, or just enjoys eating them...

REMEMBER DO NOT EAT ANY WILD MUSHROOM UNTIL YOU ARE SURE IT IS SAFE!!!

We can post our finds here, we can post pictures of the interesting ones we find, and we can post pictures of the mushrooms we are not sure of or have no idea what they are.

Help each other figure out the finds....

JUST REMEMBER DO NOT EAT A MUSHROOM SOLEY ON SOMETHING WRITTEN HERE, MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY THE IDENTIDY OF THE SHROOM!

We can also post our reference materials and websites we use.

Be nice to each other Please. Do not take it personally if someone does not eat a mushroom you identify or disagrees with your identification of it.

Have fun. Thanks for joining!

Here are some of my recent finds. Some I know some I have no idea.

I have no idea what the above one is, I just like the picture.

Below is a picture of a shelf mushroom my cousin and I found, I thought it was an immature chicken, he disagreed. We left it in the woods. It did not bleed "milk" when we cut it.

This is a shelf of some kind. I just thought the white edge and under belly was cool. It is also still on the tree.

Below are the little hard mushrooms, again no idea of the species. I take lots of pictures of mushrooms.

Again I am not sure of this one, could be a parasol but I could not find one like it in the book. It is absolutely beautiful. As I have aged I find wonder and more beauty in things like this.

Above is an "old Man of the woods". We left it too, I was told they are not that tasty. I could be wrong, but we have enough mushrooms so we left this for seed.

Below is one I thought was a puffball, I could not find one like it. The flesh was hard and white and appeared was puffball like. When we could not ID it and be 100% sure we threw it away the thick base had us stumped.

Above is just a large one. So I snapped a picture, again no idea of who it is.

I will post a few more, I wanted to keep the size of the post down... Thanks.

Moderators I am not trying to "Bump" my thread, just trying to keep post size down so my computer does not lock up.

I have no idea what this is but we have a ton of them.

I love the pix. My neighbor forages for mushrooms & recently carved up a log to grow his own. I'm from the city & wild mushrooms scare me, but I'm intrigued. Hope you don't mind if I linger.

Thanks.

I have been going with my cousin quite a bit. He has done it for year but only a couple species. We are trying to learn new ones and do it safely.

I was really afraid to try the first piece, as was my wife. We grew up with people saying "
DON'T EAT WILD MUSHROOMS THEY WILL KILL YOU!"

I have learned through some research that is not the case. Some could kill you, so make sure you don't eat them.

Make sure you know what the mushrooms are growing on or in. I am only comfortable with 4 species right now. I will be adding others slowly.

I am astounded the "puffballs" we use to throw at each other in "puffball fights" as kids are so darn good when cooked in butter and onions. They must be young and immature though, and make sure they are not stinkballs. I have two in the fridge to eat today. I found one last night when feeding chickens and one this morning when letting chickens out.
