Mushroom foragers

Pics
A while back I had to replace the shingles on my little barn roof. As I got off the ladder I nearly stepped on these puffballs. They were tasty but not quite as good as the Oyster mushrooms that I had been enjoying.

I really need to get out there and look. I bet this was a good year for mushrooms since it was a damp summer but I've had so little time to go out! I do know that there's turkey tail all over the wood pile and coral out behind the fire pit, just inside the wood line but that's as far as I've found lol

It was not all that good here, even amongst those that could get out and about.

I am surprised you like the Oyster better than the puffballs. I find them to be top notch. Oysters are just so so, I wonder if it is a variation in our tastes or whether the mushrooms taste different from area to area or a little of both.

It is not that I like them both I just like the puffballs a tad more.

Been a bad year here for mushrooms. Went out a couple days ago though, and things are looking better... found a very nice bolete, so who knows... and it's raining right now... At least there were mushrooms to look at and appreciate, even if only one edible was found. Got a nice pic of Amanita muscaria:

That is so cool you found black trumpets! Awesome!! That one you don't know what it is, that looks like Pholiota squarrosa to me. Those are not considered edible, but they are beautiful and they help to break down old wood. If you see them again, smell them. They smell like garlic!

A bunch of slow posters this year....

I just went out this morning.

Found a Bollete of some kind, pretty sure it is safe to eat, doing a spore test now.

Also found some Hen and black trumpets.

With a really dry summer, almost all the mushrooms disappeared except for a lot of LBMs (little brown mushrooms) in the grass. I finally found several nice big clusters of Shaggy Mane yesterday evening and they were delicious.

In the woods behind my house. I'm in southeast Louisiana.
