My local feed store isn't too far away, so I usually go there once or twice a week to buy the feed one or two 50# bags at a time. Some feeds are kept inside the store, others must be obtained from the storehouse behind the store. You hand your receipt to one of the workers who brings it out and puts it in your vehicle.
Sometimes I see folks handing these loaders tip money. Is that an expected custom? Or an exceptional option?
I used to wait tables in a restaurant, where you were expected to receive tips to make the majority of your income. The restaurant paid less than minimum wage but you could expect to earn more in tips. Do these feed stores expect their loaders to earn most of their income in tips?
We're on a terribly tight budget now, Mister works a job where he's paid just a little over minimum wage. We don't eat out any more, but if I did I'd make sure I tipped the server. I am frugal with my flock's feed, and shop for the best deals I can find. I cannot afford an extra dollar or two each time I have bags loaded in the van. If I were allowed, I'd carry & load my own bags.
Is it considered rude to not tip the loaders?
