Bella sighed and watched him go.

Billy kept going.

Ben kept yelling at his mother. "It was big! And Furry! and It bumped into me! I don't know what it is mommy!" He moved next to her and shivered.

 
(CRAZY, could we bring back Jake's herd? they were at the dry riverbed, waiting for snow)

Monsoon, seeing her attack had missed, spun around and lunged, sinking her teeth into Peanut's shoulder.

Typhoon, with Popcorn following, headed a ways away to graze. She had no interest in challenging for lead mare.

(Sure! I forgot about them...)

Jake started to investigate. He trotted looking at everything,then he rounded up the mares and stood next to them,sheltering them from the chill of the wind.

Peanut ran away kicking. She stood behind Typhoonn and Popcorn,breathing hard.

Bonnie suddenly jumped out from behind Ben and shouted"Roooaarr!"

Tempest stood beside Tornado, being the windbreak for the young colt. She looked at Jake. "I'm new to this area. I haven't experienced snow before."

Monsoon reared and whinnied victoriously, striking the air crazily with her hooves. When she came down, she reared again, this time whinnying out another challenge. Did Miri or Typhoon want to challenge her?

Typhoon looked at Peanut, hiding behind her and Popcorn. "Don't take it too hard. She just likes bossing everyone around. I usually just move out of her way and get on with life."

"You mean,you don't know what it is?" he asked confused.

Caleb trotted up to her. "That's enough. You are lead mare and they know that. I want to find somewhere to spend the night. It's going to snow soon."

Peanut snorted,as if none of the fight had ever happened.

Popcorn whinnied.

Bonnie suddenly jumped out from behind Ben and shouted"Roooaarr!"

Ben screamed and ran around to his mother's side. Then he glared at her. "YOU!"

"I'm only familiar with rain," Tempest said. "I was captured as a filly and raised with domestic horses, far from here." She looked at Jake. "When you met me, I'd only been in the area a few months. When the humans shipped me out here, I escaped."

Monsoon calmed down slightly, extremely pleased with herself. Finding somewhere to spend the night was her job, and turning, she whinnied for the others to follow.

Typhoon looked up, stared then with a snort, followed her sister.

Ben recovered his dignity. "You did not! I was just...playing along!" he retorted.

Billy came trotting down the hill. "Everythings clear. Nothing to worry about." He nuzzled Bella before sticking his muzzle down to Ben and Bonnie.

Jake looked up at the sky. "Well it's like rain,but colder and lighter. It's white and when lot's of it falls it builds up and coveres the ground. It's nice to play in. Somtimes it snows hard and becomes a blizzard. You cannot see in it. Snow only comes around a certain time of year."

Popcorn followed boredly.

Peanut followed sourly.

Caleb took the position in the back. Then he trotted up to Monsoon. "I know a place." he said,his voice commanding.

At her side, Tornado squirmed impatiently. His dam was blocking his view of Jake.

Monsoon snorted but consented and moved back, letting Caleb take the lead.

Unable to resist, Typhoon reached out and nipped her sister's rump. Monsoon kicked weakly and kept walking.
