It is soft shell, and the white is extending out the top of the egg, i dont know if it has a yolk, i have not broke it open yet. I think its because i adjusted the timer, the light was on til 12 then on again at 5 AM, i changed it to just come on at 3 AM and let dusk come its self. I think this may have confused the chickens and they tried to speed up the process. Does that sound plausible?

Yes, That sounds very plausible. I have seen several strange eggs for our girls in the last several weeks. Any thing differnet in their routine ie.,treats, very cold weather, etc, would result in at least one egg that wasn't perfect.

I am starting to delay when the lights come on as well and after seeing the eggs lately I'll be delying lights only 15 minutes per week.

I just get the feeling that the stress of winter can amplify irregularities.

Are your girls getting natural sunlight?
