Mutt chicks. Pullets?

Is leg color the main determining factor even if they are mutts? The comb and waddles are not at all red, and both chicks are really the same color. Chick1 does not have any more white than chick2. They both had solid spots on their heads when they were first hatched too.

If you look at the pic you posted on post #7, you can see the one on the left is lighter than the one on the right, and yellow front feet. Both traits of cockerals, in the BR world. while the pullets are typically darker, with black fronted feet. They look pretty dominant BR to me. I never look at the spot on thier head to sex, only the feet at hatch, and the colour of the feathers as they feather out. comb and wattles will not be a factor until they get older, they are too young now for that type of development, but watch for it. The cockerel's wil gorw faster and redder, and the pullets will not get really red until point of lay.

I agree. A lot can be said about the stance, particularly if they stand in a protective mode over the other (female) chick, as "he" appears to be doing in the first picture. I don't know if that's "scientifically accurate", but it seems to be true most if not all the time.
