My 1 1/2 year old golden pheasant is looking poorly

I don't know what is happening to my Hush. He was fine until last week, but suddenly he started to slow down and fluf himself up and stay put, not eating, drinking a bit, and his poo is quite odorous. I checked his tongue and beak, no sign of any problem there. I don't know how to check his crop though. He is my little "baby" born in my hands. Can somebody give me an advice? We had just him and a female named Billie. I went to collect two young females born this summer the 8th Oct and he was fine until that happened last week. The little females born this summer are fine and very perky so did not think he picked something from them. HELP!!!

I don't have a lot of experience with pheasant as I'm just getting started with them (I've just had peafowl).

A few questions I would start with:

Is he kept with other types of birds?
Do you worm your birds on any sort of schedule?
What color and consistancy is his droppings? yellow, white, brown? liquid or more like toothpaste?

You said none of your other birds are showing these signs? You should isolate him to be safe until you figure this out.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in shortly.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I am going to the Vets this afternoon. I have isolated Hush and he is in our home on a warm water bottle with food and fresh water. His poo is quite liquid and smelly, yellow a bit, I worm all my little friends on a regular basis with Flubenvet three days at the beginning of each month. Thanks for the questions.

I'd look up blackhead. Blackhead causes yellow watery poop.

You worm them every month?There is no need for that.They only need to be wormed 2 times per year.It doesn't sound like you over medicated him,if so his droppings would be black.I would get him outside,if he is to warm he may not produce his down for the winter months.

Unfortunately since my inquiry my loving Hush died - as a matter of fact about 2 hours after we had been back from the vet who could not help. Although it is a longish time ago, I still miss him terribly as he was always coming on my shoulder, played and jumped on my lap regularly. He was born in my hand and died in the same hands. I cannot get over it that easily.
