You could definitely do that, and it might actually help! a coop is a bit expensive, but building one can be pretty cheap. Even just building him a little box to roost and nest in, with a large dog kennel around it, might work.

Sorry to hear your buddy is being mean. Is he young like under a year? If so, it could be his hormones just peeked which sometimes makes them ballistic. Usually, a couple months later, it's the exact opposite again.

Welcome to BYC. Almost sounds as if you are his 'flock' and everyone else is not. As small as he is, he is still capable of injuring smaller children. I'd guard against that.
