I am going to try a water heater t-stat in my brooder , you want the lower one . a two pole can be used with either 220 volt or 115 volt a single pole can only be used with 115 volt . I am going to modify the t=stat I use in my brooder with a large heat sink to try to get it to sense the air temp better/quicker it is a rubbermaid brooder I have almost finished it I will get some pictures up in the next day or 2 HTH good luck
New question? How soon do I need to start collecting/ ordering eggs? If we hatch from our own, we will be hatching mostly mutts... but we would really like to get a few silkies, and at least one polish... maybe more, and my son really wants Jersey Giants. Anyway... I would have to order them I guess??? How soon should I do that? We already have one egg collected from our little D'Uccle, she doesnt lay often and I was hoping to try to get a few out of her? But not sure if I can time all of that right. Any thoughts????
Some folks make their own wiggler from a sanwich baggie half filled with water and wrapped in half and held with rubber bands. Stick your therm. in the center.
Also, I had poor hatching rate of eggs placed on styrofoam. I had 16 eggs hatch OFF the styro before one hatched ON the styro. Maybe if you remove the styro trays during lockdown you may be ok.

I would love to see that! We also have a rubbermaid brooder and chicks coming any day now! Maybe that can be ds next project?
I do wish I would have known what pole we needed when dh and I went to lowes for the thermostat... it was not pretty! LOL Good thing we can look back and laugh at ourselves. Thanks for the info! Very helpful!

My hubby suggested we try the baggie... I didnt know if it would work... its worth a shot!
What did you end up using instead of the styrofoam? That would be quite a fall for ours if they did hatch on the styro? Not good! Any suggestions?
Anyone else have trouble with the styrofoam? Any idea's on what else to use? When to get eggs? or basically how long do we "test" the bator before we order eggs? Any other suggestions or concerns?

Do you have a picture?? I think I know what you mean but wanna be sure.
Thanks for all the help!!!
Petsmart may have one, I'm not sure. I live in a tiny town with only a Walmart for shopping, the closest Pet store besides a little local dog boutique, is 90 miles away, so shipping was good for me. I Doubt petsmart would have this exact one, but maybe something similar.
Also, as for testing the Incubator. I tested mine with store bought eating eggs in in for a few days, having eggs in there can make a big difference, as they hold heat, and stabilize Humidity in my opinion. As for buying eggs, you may want to run it with your own eggs for a test hatch, otherwise if any problems arise, you could loose the eggs you paid money for. For me I'm impatient, and jumped right in with buying and shipping eggs, and had my bulb blow in the middle of the night, dropping the temp to 80 before I woke up, but they are still developing luckily.
