my 1st attemp at hatching eggs

i was able to remove the sponge without removing the eggs but there is still some water in the pan ...humidity droped from 71% to 65% i guess when i opened the door it helped lower it....i would have to remove eggs for about 2 mins long enough to get the pan out....

I will offer an article again from PP mag if you pm me your e-mail address.

However the temp can go up to 101 with no problem. The article will address the humidity.

I wish you well,

Rancher

well this is what i did..i removed all 9 eggs and removed the wet sponge and poured the water out...i put my pan back in along with a dry sponge to have in there just incase i needed to add water later.. i put my eggs back in and shut the lid...during that 2min. the temp went from 99 to 91 deg and humidity went from 70 to 63% and climbing ever so slightly....

Don't worry about temporary drop in temperature. It is not a problem. You may have some spilled water in the bator or the pan is damp. You mentioned that it is a home made incubator. Is there a chance you don't have any air holes for air circulation? Do you have a fan? Don't panic because you have time to get this right.

there are 3 - 3/8s holes in the top and 1- 3/8 hole in the side that is open to adjust the water heater thermastat.. there is a 1/2 hole in the other side that i have a clear plastic hose to fill the pan with water so i dont have to open the top...about an hour after i removed the water and spong the humidity droped to about 55% but after last night and all day today my temp stays at 99deg and 28% humidity....seems to be very steady with very very little swing in temp and humidity....90% of the time it stays at 99deg and 28% humidity.....

That's what I mentioned earlier about dry incubation. Keep it where it is now for the remainder of the 18 days and then up the humidity to 65-70% for the remaining 3 days and don't turn the eggs after the 18th and you will be fine. Good luck and happy hatching.
