My 1st Egg, EXCITED

I'm now getting an egg a day which mean 1 hen is laying and the other is not.... what? why could this be when both are the same age, although DeWalt ( my Roo) is smitten over the one laying.

Even though they are the same age, they still mature at different rates. Be patient. The one not laying should be laying soon. My girls all started within a 2 week period of each other.

It is also possible that they are both laying but just not on the same day. Not all hens lay an egg every day, especially in the beginning when they still got to finetune their production cycle. Unless you know for sure that they should lay 2 very differently colored eggs, there's really no telling who lays what until you catch them in the act.

Congrats! Of my 3 chicks that I got in late August, one started laying 2/9, one started a couple of weeks later, and the last didn't start laying until mid-March. The latest starter lays the largest eggs of the 3, even though I have 2 of the same breed. And coincidentally (or maybe not?) the one that lays the smallest eggs started first. I did also read somewhere that chickens that lay very large eggs (hers are definitely X-Large) might be delayed since anatomically, they need to be able to handle laying a larger egg. So, maybe you just have X-Large eggs in your future?
