My 1st Purple Egg!!

Much to my surprise I was lucky enough to have my 1st purple egg today!
Nice color combo this morning!

I am not 100% sure but I suspect one of my mixed breed. (Lavender Orpington Roo and BJG cross)

Do blue orp lay anything fancy? I have those and silver laced pullets....

I may be wrong in this and I am sure someone will gladly correct me if I am wrong. A purple egg is actually a brown egg with a heavy bloom on it. So in reality any brown egg laying hen could give you a purple egg. It may actually be a defect in the sense that to much bloom was put on the egg. Hope that helps.

they lay nicely sized brown eggs. And all through the winter for mine!

Yup, pinkish/purplish eggs are caused by bloom tint.
It can come and go, varying daily.
Have had some pinkish/lavenderish eggs but nothing that dark...Nice!

Today I got another Purple egg! I happen to have a napkin with purple on it so you can have something to compare it to. Now I am really wondering which hen is laying them.
I am actually gathering a dozen together for someone to hatch and I think he will like seeing the purple ones in the dozen. I sell a dozen for $10 maybe now I can tell him this is a special breed with purple eggs. Time to raise my prices. I was thinking $10.99 with special purple egg layers.
