Thanks everyone. It was a pretty nice surprise for us and for our guests. I think out of 10 eggs I cracked that morning we got 15 or 16 yolks. Ha ha! I wish I had a good way to weigh the egg to but maybe next time. As far as the egg size though, it would fall into the large category but didn't look out of the norm in any way.
But triple-yolker! Never even heard of that one before!
It's been a few years, but we got a batch of RIR from a nearby hatchery that seemed to specialize in multi-yolked eggs. We only got them for a few months after they started laying full size eggs - but triple yolkers were not uncommon, we got some 4 yolkers and had one elongated, large egg that had FIVE!!!! After a few months they started laying nice big eggs with just one yolk, and we never have had a batch of hens like that again. Wish I would have thought to take a photo, but this was back in the days when we used FILM
, and it cost a bundle to get it processed! How things have changed
WOW, THREE yolks! Congrats! You know, the yolk tastes the best but so many are worried that it is so bad for you and I say HUH! I'm going to enjoy my yolks and I'm happy for you, and I'll bet that is a story your company will be talking about for a long time to come!
Also enjoyed the stories of four/five yolks as well. Amazing!
Very cool!!
So far ,in the two weeks we have had laying hens, we have two doubles.
I have heard of the many multipuls...but have pnlt seen doubles myself.
I wonder what causes the double and triple yokers - plus what do they do with these types of eggs in commercial operations? I assume as amazing as they are they are considered grade "x" whatever as they are not conforming?
