We've got 4 chickens, one of whom is a black sex-linked. She's our hands-down favorite! Just yesterday the neighbor's boy (9 years old) came over, went right to her and picked her up. Not a squawk or wiggle from her - just happy to be cuddled!

Gotta love those sex-linked chickens. They're nice birds.

Yup, I'd say those are red sex links. We have 8. Ours are very curious but not ready to be cuddled yet. We got them from a hatchery, as pullets so they are taking time adjusting to contact. I love the personality of the breed. My sister was on the island visiting and when she went out to see our chickens she called them "happy" chickens. Good to hear.

Here are a few pics of our girls.

The cat wanted to know what all the excitment was about. This loving little kitty has a lot of fun laying around observing his flock. The chickens like to chase him around for their own entertainment.

Since we got ours from a hatchery they arrived with their beaks trimmed. As soon as we got them I was wishing they hadn't had their beaks trimmed. It doesn't seem right. We're new to having chickens so we're learning as we go.

Would you be willing to name the hatchery? Not to chastise them, but so that people (like me) who don't want to purchase debeaked birds know whom to avoid?

I got mine from a hatchery and they did not have the beaks trimmed. Weird!

I hope they do okay even with that. I also hope like a couple of the others said that the beaks grow back. Good luck with them.

I am very happy to hear all these great things about my chickens-any guess on the age?

I assume they arent going to lay eggs tomorrow...

I hope the beaks grow back as well, like Chicky I am learning too...if I get more hens will the debeaked birds be at a disadvantage?

They do let me pet them for a minute them run away, but not hold them,

I am A little wary of holding them and getting pooped on
