My 2 "white silkie" chicks! Updated with 6 wks PICS pg 5!

Well I just heard back from the person from whom I purchased the eggs. Turns out ol' Fudgie is a Speckled Sussex from their prize winning rooster!!!

ROFLMAO! Not only is Fudgie not a silkie, he's not even bantam! He's one of the heavy standard breeds!!!

Oh yeah.. you know that when DD found out it was a "prize winning" rooster egg she wanted to keep him even more. I told her that we really don't have room for him in our tiny banty coop!

It'd be like stuffing baby Huey into the Barbie fun house!

Fudgie is cute, is that how a speckled sussex looks normally? I've never seen a chick

Yep once he told me what Fudgie was I went and looked up pics of speckled sussex chicks. Sure enough...

Oh the DD is in love with him.. but the neighbor has a huge coop with standard size egg layers in it. Fudgie will be better off in there.

Oh yeah, they're all over those poor red sex links... They even have some of them named. Turns out one of the named ones, and one they wagged around all the time was a roo. He ended up with the name Steven Harrison LOL! Well Steven Harrison was all ok with the wagging around while he was smaller, but once he grew up he got all roo on everyone he turned aggressive. The kids no longer liked Steven Harrison, and didn't even shed a tear when a dog got him.

I did explain to the kids that Steven Harrison was doing his job protecting his hens from the dog. By taking on the dog the hens got away. After that they decided that Steven Harrison was very brave and he was awarded some posthumous love.

So I'm sure Fudgie is destined for the "wag a chicken around" group. Speckled Sussex are supposed to be fairly gentle roosters so it may turn out to be a good thing.
