My 25 New Baby Buff Orpingtons (pics)

Wow! These little cuties are so active! They're running all over, jumping, eating like crazy...so fun to watch. No runts so far.

I think the huddling is pretty much normal. They aren't piling, and they're evenly spread over the box now. Mostly, the little piggies are at the feeders, which are at each end.

I can see that my box isn't going to last long. They are already looking squished in there!

We had to upgrade to a bigger box last night... actually we cut and taped to extra large boxes together and its working out great for 32 1 week old chicks. Lots of room to play

So many birds! I was wondering why, do you all keep them or sell them? I was feeling freakish with 17 myself, like I'm a hoarder or something.

I always have a hard time with pasty butt and BO. Please be really really careful getting the pasty butt off. Take your time or you can pull their insides out. Wanna ask me how i know?

I ordered straight run. We'll keep the girls + a roo or two for babies next year, and send the roosters to the freezer in the fall. So we'll only end up with a laying flock of 12-ish, minus losses, plus a roo or two.
