Hi everyone,

I bought these three females from Cackle Hatchery. I know they sometimes make mistakes on chick sexing but I believe they have a 90% garauntee. I’ll have to double check buuuut has anyone else had female salmon favorelles feather in so dark initially? They’re about 4 weeks old

This stinks. I already love them, but we can’t have cockerels one the town. Also, I paid for three females. I didn’t expect them to get it all right, but also not all wrong. Then... rehoming one will be hard, rehoming three will be impossible. And if I got more now, would they feather in properly before cold weather?

I got some chicks here in August last year and they did fine and were well feathered by the time it got colder. I did have to run my heat lamp longer, but they were done with it by 8 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with Cackle Hatchery and their quality of sexing? And also their refund policy? Will they make me wait until they’re fully grown to prove they’re males? My entire order is wrongly sexed. I’ve spent so much time energy, sweat, blood and tears making my coop and now I don’t have hens? I have three boys I’ve grown attached to that I cannot keep. :( it’s heartbreaking.

They are definitely cockerels. I would call and explain the situation to them. They want to know before 12 weeks of age, so call as soon as you are able.

Ok. Thank you everyone. I’m sad. They’re so cute and snuggled together piled on top of each other right now. I wish I lived in a rural area and this wouldn’t be so bad. It would stink, but no one would complain.
