My 3 Silkies

I took the pictures of each bird against a different back round so hopefully that helps. I had read somewhere that the top part of the comb that is up in the crest area is different on boys and girls. They boys being more squared with almost 2 points. And the girls coming more to just one point. If this is true than Pouf is a boy and Tootsie and Pepper are girls. That is also what behaviours are suggesting as well. I didn't know any of the specific characteristics to look for but I am learning. These little puffy cuties are different than the big chickens and they are super fun.

eta: OH! Also, any opinions on what color you would call them?

Hi again, that does sound tricky trying to see who's crowing when everyone is crowing! I haven't heard that method of sexing silkies. I know that girls get a more rounded crest whereas boys have a more slicked back look.

I am definitely going to vote that pepper looks like a little girl and the first one (was it pouf?) a little boy. I think tootsie has a really cute little face but I'm possibly leaning a little bit towards a boy? But maybe her crest is just developing slowly? I haven't actually haven't seen my little girls comb in a while cause her poof covers it lol, but I'll have a look to see what's there, but to me tootsie seems to have s little more development going on! But if she's acting a like a girl she could likely be a girl! :p

Hmm I have been through this myself with silkie chicks. Anything with a wide comb and reddish pronounced wattles at 13 weeks of age I would be leaning towards rooster. Pepper is the only one I would happily say is female at this stage. I hope I'm wrong though!

Well, I guess I will employ patience and chicken watching. It will be a bit easier maybe when the "Noisy 2" are gone. Sheesh! Those 2 crow a hundred times each every morning, no kidding. The "Noisy 2" have new homes waiting.......I am very happy about that!
