My 4 and 1/2 months old Buff O. just squatted for me

Its so exciting waiting for that first egg and we had to wait at least two weeks before they started laying, especially as we did not know how old they were when we bought them, living in France we didnt quite understand exactly what they were saying. We gave them a bed of straw in their coop which is easy for cleaning out. They slept in their nest boxes the first few days then developed a breathing problem which really frightened me so went to the vet for some antibiotics to put in their water then made then sleep on their roost each night, they were great after that.
I now have a broody hen so thats another story. Just love my chickens, they are so funny and give great eggs.

Also, you can check the bones just below the vent. If you can fit 3 fingers between them, it will be any day now! Mine are at the same point. Waiting is so hard!

Vent Appearance:
Dry, tight, and smaller - usually not laying.
Moist, wide, and larger - usually laying.

Pelvic Points, feel for the 2 bony points(pelvic bones F-F) on either side of vent:
Less than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means not laying.
More than 2 fingertip widths apart usually means laying.
(Spacing is relative with chickens size and humans finger size.)
