My 4 month old Frizzle is paralyzed, but still eats and drinks!

I'm sorry to hear about your frizzle. I know exactly how you feel. I had a to cull my frizzle today(my hubby did I couldn't do it). After a month long stuggle of vitamins and everything else I tried no luck. Thankfully when we got her she was in quantine and never came out with other flock. It is heartbreaking! I love my chickens(ya I'm nuts but I do). I am really sorry but I know I made the right decision. Same symptoms as yours. She ate like a pig drank good and poop was normal but was paralyzed could stand briefly but would fall over. Good luck with the rest of your flock

I somehow missed your post! Sorry to hear about your frizzle How old was she? You know you've done the right thing, when they have no quality of life. I know it's a tough thing to do. You're not nuts for having a heart. My husband and I feel the same way about our chickens, that's why it's so hard going through this. Thanks for your support

Keep going with the Frizzle, if she's still eating and pooping, there's still a chance. Mine wasn't eating on her own and was just laying down after the star gazers started. It took awhile to see the improvement, now she's thriving. Plus you started and stopped to soon last time. Keep it up and see what happens. As far as the leghorn, I'm really wondering if you're feed is the problem. I've never heard of the food your feeding them. Maybe the feed is not sufficient and they aren't getting all the nutrients they need. Maybe try a more name brand feed and go online or at the feed store and find a good all around liquid vitamin supplement you can add to the water. Believe me it really sounds like you are having some of the same all around not healthy chicken problems like I had. As far as the sour crop, you can definitely add the scrambled egg now, she needs that protein and it's very easy to digest. Remember, she doesn't need grit on this diet. Keep up with the Apple Cider Vinegar.

Thanks for your advice. I called a poultry specialist today to see what to do about the Frizzle. Our call got disconnected and I called him back and left a message giving him my number. I'm hoping he'll call me back tomorrow, if not, I'll call him again. The Silkie and Leghorn seem good this evening. My son gave the Leghorn some banana and she loved it! I will give the Silkie scrambled eggs with her kefir in the morning. I will also check on the food that I'm giving. I get it at Tractor Supply. Maybe I do need to try something else.

Still very concerned about the Frizzle though. She has no movement in her legs at all We're still continuing the vitamins and she's still eating and drinking on her own. I really hope the poultry specialist calls me back this morning. If not, I'll be calling him. If it's Marek's I don't want to prolong her suffering. I'm not sure how much time to give her.

Believe me being the animal lover I am I definitely don't believe in prolonging their life if they're suffering. I just know how long it took my chick to show any improvement and how much worse she got before she got better. Also, you started the treatment and stopped. I wouldn't count the time that you spent treating her before. I would totally get it if you decided to cull her, but if it were me I would hold on for 48 more hours more. If she doesn't show ANY improvement I'd let her go. I'm so glad the others are showing improvement, did you ask the specialist about the food and the other birds??

Yes I agree. There was rapid improvement with mine.

Thank you for cheching on us. Sorry I've taken so long to respond. We are going to put the Frizzle down but not sure who can do the necropsy. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow. The poultry specialist hasn't called me back and I keep getting his voicemail. We found a tumor on the back of her neck, so i'm betting it's Marek's disease. The Silkie's crop was swollen this morning so I gave her a little kefir with vitamins in it. It's still swollen tonight so I'm getting really worried now.
