My 4 week old and 5 week old chicks are outside and I feel so sad.....

I so know how you feel! My 8 chicks went out two weeks ago but I keep bringing them back in to their brooder box at night so I can sleep! Even though my DH built a Fort Knox coop. Can't help myself but I think the chicks are getting sick of it!

I moved mine out after a week. They are in a dog crate with a light in a shed.. I am positive they are safe unless a weasel can get in... and maybe one can. A mouse gets in. hmmm... I had better be figuring out how it is getting in I guess....

Do your chickens also have a coop... is this just their run that they are in?

Yes they have a coop to go into its right now just a 4X4 coop and 2 ft tall.

I'm sorry I couldn't do it ya'll...I went out and got them and brought them back in before dark... I just can't let them go yet...

that's OK Teresa... my first chicks stayed in side a long time too! they were outside for a while.. that was good for them!

I had my buffs I got from Ideal in the house for 3 months before I even thought about taking them outside!...LOL

It's so understandable. It's ok to move them in stages...let them get to know the outside during the day first, and then eventually they can do nights. Maybe...or you'll be up to your eyeballs in dirty chicken diapers!

LOL

The reason I am pushing myself so hard to get them outside. Is because I dont have enough brooder space and I have 26 chicks to hatch on the 20th and 21st.

I did the same thing with my ducklings. I put them out during the day and brought them in at night. They are out full time now but it gave us all time to adjust.

They have a run with a dog box in there. I locked them in the dog box at night for two nights and let them out during the day. Now they go into the dog box to sleep or if it is windy. I am very happy about this.

I have three silkies and five bantams in the house and they should be going outside in a couple of weeks. I will probably do things the same as with the ducks.

You have Adorable babies - ALL of them. We understand what your going through.

It's ok, I couldn't do it either. Mine were supposed to be in the coop for the first time last night. They've been spending day time out there for two weeks. Went to check on them at 10:00pm, they were scared, peeping, fussy, just very unhappy and they all tried to pile onto my lap. So, sap that I am, I gathered them all up and tucked them into bed in their brooder box in the garage! We will try again tonight!
