my 5 day old chick wont open it's eyes and its gullet seems puffy like air is in it. I am afraid it might be dying. I spoon fed it water but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions??

Poor guy.

It does sound dangerous. Could he have a crop impaction or sour crop? Make sure he is warm, comfortable (not being trampled by siblings), and getting electrolytes and vitamins to promote good health.

Hopefully some one else can assist you, as I don't know much about diagnosing diseases.

I hope he gets better soon!

Does he have pasted butt? If he can't poop he's going to puff up and the retained faeces will poison him.
Have you felt the puffy area? If he ate something that won't go thru you my be able to gently ease it back up and out his mouth....I had a scare with a greedy little couple week old chick chowed down a piece of grape...he couldn't swallow it and it wasn't coming back up on its own...so before he turned completely blue I felt for the lump and gently moved it back up his throat and out. After a few mins he was good as new...

My little guy passed away last night. He did have a little pasted butt when he first arrived 3 days ago but I gave them yogurt and he seemed fine. It has been really hot here so maybe it got over heated. I am watching the rest closely.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little guy...at Tim's they seem so resilient...amazing survival even when you think there is no way!!! They will make it....and the next time you check on them, the little critters are up running around as if nothing happened...there times, out . Of nowhere something goes wrong and no matter what you do you loose them...so far I'm a hands down fan of Mommy Birds...the only chicks I've lost so far this summer, with a trusted hen in charge..we're to a weasel...she is now on her second batch and her sister has another little family...It seems that those Easter Egg hens do a great job...hope you are over the hump and it will be smooth sailing from here on out. Good luck!!
