My 5 wk old Embden goose just stopped walking on day! She can't even stand but she's very alert, eating and drinking. Im giving her plane Niacin in her water and brewers yeast in her food. If its just a Niacin issue how long before she can walk again?

I just put her in the kiddy pool to see if she'll move her legs without weight. I made a video.

I'm feeding them Purina Flock Raiser crumbles.

Since you already have her on Niacin and brewers yeast just keep that up and make sure she gets water therapy several times daily. Hopefully that will strengthen her legs again. Make sure to keep her on for a long while on the niacin and brewers yeast. Some goslings just need more than other to develop the strong legs... Good luck with the gosling.

So it's ok to let her move around in the pool. Oh, good! I was worried I was doing it wrong. With a hurt chicken I was told to let them rest the leg but I guess it's 2 totally different things. (My frien had a hen that hurt its leg) After the pool I put her in a box with hay outside with the other birds & she tried to stand. When she couldn't she screamed. I think out of pure frustration bc she wanted to run around with the other ducks and her goose friend.

Now do not leave her in too long because they can get water logged and drowned. So make sure to be there to supervise the secessions with her. She needs the physical therapy on the legs swimming to help strengthen those little legs of her. Oh! also take a towel and dry her some so she does not catch cold. The towel will take most of the water out of her down and help her dry faster. I love towel drying goslings. They start cooing because they like the gentle massage.

I think the water therapy encouraged her to want to stand and try to move. I'm keeping her in a large box that a spa chair was delivered in. When I went to bed she was all the way to the left side. I had put her next to the food and water. This morning she was against the right side of the box! So I know she's moving.

The other goose is getting so big and she looks like she stopped growing. Is that just bc she can't walk? She looks alert so I don't think she's going to go south on me.

Probably just the niacin dif. once she gets over this she will begin to catch up. make sure she has feed and water close by and you might also want to add some kind of poultry vitamin to her water along with the niacin.
