My 5 wk old Embden goose stopped walking!!

Keep working with the goslings she is coming along slowly but for sure and that is a good thing. OK, when she could not stand did her legs go out to the sides like and airplane wings? If so she had spraddle legs and all you have to do with them is hobble them with some paper tape. I had a new born with it and took the gosling put it on it's back and taped the one leg above the knee and the legs were sitting right on it's back so taped the other side to it and made sure to go over the middle of the tape so it would not pull the babies down out. The goslings pulled out of it in two days! Was up and walking like a champ.

But your baby has niacin and brewers yeast and vitamins need as well. Have you ever hobbled the legs on this one to help it walk better? Just a thought. But keep giving the things that make it walk. Increase the niacin as baby grows.

Keep us posted on baby.

I placed her in the yard with the ducks and other goose & she wants to follow the ducks & goose, get to her food and water so she's getting around! I'm seeing even more improvement out of her & she's taking 8 or 10 steps without falling!! Still a bit wobbly but she's walking much better. She's a quarter of the size of my other goose that was hatched the same day. Even her feather growth is behind.
Great news she is improving but I think if you increase the niacin you'll see improvement faster. Here is a link to verify it. we forget as they grow they need more niacin than when they first started. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/785910/gus-cant-walk

Get your gosling and put on he/her back and the legs will go into a relax state once baby settles down. That is how you will hobble them by taking some tape go above the elbow joint and wrap the tape around twice and keep the tape do not stop and take the tape over to the other leg leave it loose in the middle not taught wrap it around the other leg twice and then run the tape over on the middle of the other tape then tear next to the leg and make that tape stick on each other so it does not pull out the down or feathers.
I do not have a picture. Sorry. I had never done it before until this year and if I can do so can you. It is just to hold the legs so they do not go out from under the gosling like they have been doing. The gosling can walk just fine with this on them. It helps them to walk better and the legs not go from under them.

Remember on the back the legs will fall into a good position for you to tape them right. Then tape them. You will get the idea when you are doing it. Remember they have to be able to walk with the hobble on.
Good Luck...

Hope you little goose is doing better. My mom had an African goosling that had issues walking when I was younger. Her vet told her give it polyvisol without iron. That helped him alot. This was of course 35 years ago. He said they are alot like turkeys in that they can get rickets and have issues walking, but he recovered and grew up to be one spoiled boy. Followed my mom everywhere she went outside and tried to run my dad off. That didn't go over so well. LOL.

Will say a pray for you little one.

Almost can't tell which one she is in the video. She's the one on the left in back of the line. She's smaller than my other goose that's the same age. Instead she's the size of the ducklings.

that is awesome, so happy to hear and see her doing so well. Congrats for sticking in there and getting her through the rough parts. Be sure to keep up with the niacin till she is at least 10weeks old.

I'm sorry to announce the gate didn't shut correctly and my bulldog Buster "played" with her! ;0( She's very much alive and alert, eating, drinking & chirping. Now she has bite holes from his teeth (which are not major wounds) and a broken wing with the bone actually sticking out with the wing just hanging!! I call the vet and was told it will start in the hundreds and the bill can go as high as over $1,000. or I can give her to the lady that works there and she'll pay for her care and take care of her. So I dropped her off at the vet bc they have such a full schedule today the vet is going to fit her in between patients. I was prepared to sign her over to the vet tech who would adopt her bc I knew she'd get the care she needed then I got a phone call from their office asking me if they could amputate her wing and the bill would be $250 so we decided to let them amputate the wing. I must tell you... THAT'S ONE STRONG GOOSE!!! Are all geese that tough?! If something like that happen to one of my chickens the chicken would go into shock and die!

Aww so sorry, I am glad you were able to get her treated, she'll be fine with only 1 wing. and yes they are very resilient. Hoping all goes well and she'll be good as new, well [almost] soon.
