What is this? I saw it on her in the brooder but I thought she had stepped in poop. We just put them in the coop and a I got a closer look. I put bacitracin ointment on it today.
Frost bite is highly unlikely. Please help!

Welcome to BYC. I can see the toenail and what looks like the toe, but I still think there is something on the toe. Can you soak her foot in some warm Epsom salts water or soapy water, and try to rub some of the material off of it? Chickens can get mud balls on feet which are like cement sometimes.

Thank you so much! We soaked it in Epsom salts and gently rubbed it off. The toe is black, but I think she'll be fine.

Looks like that end part will eventually fall off. Maybe something got wrapped around the toe and cut off circulation. Something as small as a hair could do it. So she'll lose a toe, and otherwise likely be just fine. Thanks for posting the picture.

Thank you for responding. I feel bad that I let it go so long. seats done is done and I too think she'll be fine.

Lots of chickens live long, happy lives with missing toes. :D Stuff happens.
