Yes, you read that right. When we got her (Lucy), we got her with a RSL roo and two bronze turkeys. The poor girl...she lost both her boyfriend and her two turkey friends to predators. The older chickens won't have anything to do with her. They are constantly bullying her...to the point that I have to deliberately feed her separately. When it isn't feeding time, luckily their run is large enough that she just stays out of the way...and hangs out all by herself.

Well, lo and behold! The quarantine period was up today for our new flock of 5 turkeys (3 White Hollands and 2 Bourbon Reds). They are 15 weeks old, and tower over the existing chicken clique. So, for kicks...I let the turkeys in with the chickens while I was in there doing chores. I put out the turkey's food and the chicken's food. The 4 older chickens (3 pullets and 1 roo) ran over to the yummy turkey feed. Well, those wonderful turkeys gave the chickens a taste of their own medicine. Then you know what happened? My little RSL, Lucy...headed for cover by the turkeys and they let her eat right alongside them! They didn't bother her at all. The second my RIR roo, Charlie, would try to boss little Lucy around...Lucy's bodyguards (the turkeys) chased him off! Way to go, turkeys!

I love turkeys more and more each day.

Poor girl! I don't understand why chickens have to be so mean sometimes... my red stars STILL pick on poor little connie, my EE. Only one hen takes to her liking, and weird enough, it's the head hen! But it doesnt help her out much, becuase the other chickens still beat her up

But I love how this little pullets story turned out!

Love my Critters! :

Cute story, I'm glad she has some friends again. Are you going to let her stay with the turkeys?

I'm thinking that I will. When my new batch of babies comes in tomorrow, maybe I'll try integrating her with them when they are older. If that doesn't work, she'll stay with the turkeys.
