Hi everyone, I'm taking care of my sister's chickens while she's away. One of them has a hard mass the size of a grapefruit in her lower abdomen. I took her to a vet and she could not feel an egg in the tract. Put her on calcium supplement (liquid) and an anti inflammatory. Cleo, the chicken, had been bullied a little by the other two, and was finding peace in her henhouse. I divided the coop in two sections to separate them and Cleo is out and about now, pecking at her greens. I also gave her a little cat food and yogurt. Three warm baths. Her poo has been watery with some yellow and green.

Her lump is mostly hard with some squishy patches. I hope I didn't break an egg while gently massaging her.

Anyone else have these same symptoms?

If she develops an infection, how soon would I see symptoms?

Thanks,
Dina

It could be a hernia, water belly (liver failure) or egg yolk peritonitis. It could also be a tumor.

I hope she gets better soon!

Thanks! The vet couldn't tell what the lump is from the X-ray. Cleo is eating a pooping but it's a bit watery. Fingers crossed she keeps hanging in there. I am new to caring for chickens, but I'm learning a lot and love them! I also give Cleo warm baths and she really seems to like it.
