My 9 month old pullet is showing signs of yellowish pigment on( cheeks) and feet?

Any chance you can have a vet to run a fecal float to check for internal parasites? Or do you normally worm your flock? Wyorp Rock is amazing and extremely knowledgeable, so whatever she says, I'd trust. I just wanted to ask just in case.
Thanks Heather. Yes I do. I only have 4 and raised from day old. I have not wormed them so I suppose that could be a possibility. They free range in our fenced yard and coop at nite. I do know that they could still have worms.

I see nothing wrong but the right side of her face, better pics of that would be good.

What is their normal feed, brand/model/protein and calcium percentages?

Would also help to know.....
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

Ok. I will do that. We live in Memphis Tn. They eat a 18 % layer feed. Some treats I.e. scrambled eggs, sweet potatoes, blueberries...etc. all limited. She started laying around end of September and has quit in the last week or so. Coincidentally that is when I noticed this slight discoloring....could hormones be an issue? Thanks!

I know these pic are not good. This started literally over nite. She has had some baked sweet potatoe, scrambled eggs, and baked egg shell. The other three have also. Her eyes appear normal..no discoloring. The other three are still laying. 2 every day. One slowing. She has stopped in the last week. I read an article about going out of lay and skin changing? Nothing else different. I thought about liver too...
Eyes are normal..no squishy...i thought of liver? Feels fine. She’s eating same as other three. But, they have gotten sweet potatoe (baked no skin) and some scrambled eggs. However, I’ve done this since they were 4-5 months old...for treat. Maybe she’s had too much?
She's got a bit of dry skin.
I don't really see much that is too concerning.
Look in her ear (yellow arrow) just to make sure there's no discharge.
Feet look normal to me.
I think I would also wipe the side of her face just to make sure it's not staining from the sweet potato or eggs. Could be a little bruising from a peck.
If you wish, you can apply just a small amount of vaseline to her face and comb to help with dryness.

thanks I will do that. Appreciate all the information!

Some chicken breeds have yellow skin.
When those hens lay, their skin gets gradually less yellow.
When they quit laying, their skin gets gradually more yellow again.
This affects legs, feet, vent, face, even the beak eventually.

But Orpingtons are supposed to have white skin, so I don't think this explains what is happening with your hen (unless she naturally does have yellow skin, which can happen but is not "right" for her breed.)

That may be similar to what I read...she has had a grayish tone like the rest of them until this. It is not something someone else would notice. It is subtle...but not like she has been. Discussed with the local vet that treats chickens and he said it could be the scrambled eggs, etc. so I have stopped everything except their feed. 3 days now. None of the other three? If she shows other symptoms I guess I’ll make her an appointment 😘

I will try...been raining here(Memphis Tn) all day and nite. Will try to get a better one of her face too. It is not the tops of feet...only pads and a little between toes. Her face shows the most on her cheeks. Thanks!

Turns out she was beginning to molt...and, her skin is naturally yellowish which is not breed standard but recessive gene in Orpingtons! Now, three weeks later her tiny head is getting new tiny feathers! The yellowish color in her face is starting to get red again...her feet bottoms are still yellowish...and, I did take a stool sample to check for worms. It was negative. The other three are not loosing feathers and still laying eggs. Learning every day.

Thanks for the update! It's nice to know what was really going on, after we all made various guesses :)
