It is on a hinge and latches when pulled up. I've been thinking of using a tarp to cover the tractor and attaching it with bungi cords to stakes in the ground. and after I make the fencing around it, blocking the wind with plastic on the fencing. Just wondering, which direction does the wind come from? I know, i sure know this, my 1st grader probably does....

Greetings!
I have a similar coop in Central NH. We have a neighbor who recommended bagging manure in black bags to put under the coop (our birds free range) thinking it would radiate heat...I also read somewhere about a hay bale coop. So I was thinking of surrounding the bottom and 2 of the sides with hay bales. Just some thoughts...love to hear what you end up doing!

Well, today my husband added a run to the coop, the coop serves as one wall then fencing for the other three. We put plywood on the bottom of one side and the other side is open to the run, I will post pics tommorrow. Still not sure about winterizing, will probably throw a heavy tarp over the coop during cold days and I plan on running an extention cord to the coop for a low watt light(maybe flourescent?) and a heated water bowl.....what do you think? I am so worried about a fire!

Hi,
Great looking coop.
You might have been able to move the ramp the other way so you wouldn't have lost so much floor space in there, and the opening wouldn't have been so long, it may have helped with not letting so much cold air in.
Maybe you could fill that big hole in with some wood and turn the ramp to the other side?
Just a suggestion.
Looks great still, I want one!
Take care!
