I have a three month old golden laced Cochin cockerel who's not acting himself today. He's showing slight weakness, holding his wings down, will only stand in one spot and just peep. He will not eat anything at all. I've tried feeding oats, plantain, which is his favorite weed. I've even tried scrambles eggs. All he does is rub his beak back and forth in them and will not try eating. He doesn't seem crop bound. Doesn't seem interested in water. I have no clue what might be wrong. Any healp GREATLY appreciated.

He has since started drinking water. Anyone have advice? Vent is clean and crop is empty. I have him in a cage separate from the flock. Here is a short video so anyone may see how he is acting. You will notice how he keeps closing his eyes and wings hanging low. This is not normal for him. He is always running around pecking and scratching at the ground.

You didnt mention what his poop looked like. However, since he appears to be fluffed up, it could possibly be cocci. I recommend that you purchase corid 9.6% liquid solution and give it a try. Dosage is 9.5cc's per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Since he may not be drinking on his own, you're going to have to use an eyedropper or syringe without a needle to force him to drink the treated water. Dont squirt an eyedropperful or syringeful in his mouth all at once, he could aspirate. Give him a little at a time to swallow on his own. You'll have to do this 6-7 times a day until he is able to drink the treated water on his own. Provide him with buttermilk mixed with scrambled eggs only to eat. Again, you might have to force it down him, a little at a time like the treated water.

Thanks Dawg for the advice. He just died a few minutes ago. This came on so fast. He was very healthy and eating, drinking and just acting like a regular chicken until around 6 pm last night. He had no blood in the poop and it looked completely normal. This morning i noticed he had not pooped during the night, That's not common, is it? I noticed he crop felt just a little 'spongy' to the touch. Not big or full or anything that didn't seem abnormal. Except he did have a slight full crop. I was around him pretty much all day yesterday and he was fine acting so he became sick and died within 8 hours.

Sorry you lost him. There are 9 types of cocci that a chick/chicken can get. Not all of them cause blood in the poop. The only way to tell for sure what happened is to have a necropsy performed. Again, sorry for your loss.
