(The answer was farmtek.com.) Great ideas! I had looked at nipple watering systems and they were very pricey but I guess when you use a water tank you don't need an expensive pressure regulator. If this is true it seems those pressure regulators are completely ridiculous. Perhaps all you would need to hook up to the main line is a water tank that is big enough for a float valve (such as those used by a toilet or swamp cooler). Or does the tank need to be bigger/higher to get enough pressure?

Idon't think I need a regulator. There isn't hardly any presure. I think they work fine. This is not a presurized system. I'll screw a presure gauge in the end of the drinking pipe and post the presure. When you hit the nipple a slow dribble comes out it's not like a river.
Float valves are a good idea with water storage The way a float valve works is on water level. A water float raise up and down that operates the valve open-close. I think it would work great with a troth system.

Thanks for the input.

I really like the water system! can you give more details on the water nipples, like where you got them, the brand or what ever you can tell? were they designed for chickens or what?

Never mind.... I see you already did this

I have been perusing the forum, reading, reading, reading

and have learned so much from everyone, but this water idea has me excited! No lugging or expensive pressurized system!

I noticed that you're not too far from RI, so how do you plan to keep that water flowing in the winter? I may have to resort to lugging then as I am in Northern NH

I plan to build my coop this coming week and will post pics as soon as I can....I have enjoyed the planning stage and hope that the building stage goes as well!

It'll be 6 x 8 with 8 nest boxes, I have changed the roost design (from another coop I viewed!)

to the ladder style on one end....all windows will have 1/4" wire over them on the inside and my ramp will be underneath the coop with a trap door to prevent unwanted visitors at night..we have 'em all up here from weasels to bear and everything in between! Then I'll fence in an 8' x 15', 2" x 4" wire 'yard' for them with something over the top to prevent hawk attacks....chicken wire maybe....

Then I'll be all ready for my babies to come in June!

Ok...got a couple of questions about the water system
frow.gif
....will the water get hot in the summer?
ep.gif
....and will it go "stale"?
th.gif

Maybe I should fill it 1/2 way and see how long it lasts...? How much water should we plan per bird per day?
D.gif

ok so that was more than a couple....
