My babies are being shipped tomorrow.

It not fair!!!!! TX to maryland is waayyy farther than TX to OR!!!!!
My PO says they would have called me if they had come in so nothing has been seen as of yet.
There is a chance tho they could still come in late this afternoon but Im not hopeful...........
Only other thing possible is if my mail carrier grabed them to deliver. but my regular mail doesn't come until 2-4pm and if that is the case I will be freaking out on some people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was expecting them tomorrow, the PO never called, they just showed up at my door at noon. Which is early for me getting my mail, usually shows up around 2 in the afternoon.

Well I got my mail and no chicks........

If I do not hear anything from PO by 4pm I am going to call again and check. I'm thinkin it maybe the PO and the PDX airport. airport was very disorganized as far as ups was concerned when I was working with ups last year...... Idk how the PO works at the airport. I know Ideal said delivery would be either thur or friday Im just an impatient person I guess. LOL Im not the kinda person who sits back I wish that the hatcheries would provide a tracking number for shipments. It would really make things a lot easier! Especially for people like me

So I called my PO today (friday) when they opened and still no chicks. I called Ideal and they gave me a tracking number. PO shows it leaving Ideal but does not show it scanned in anywhere after that.......
They lost it

I called Ideal back and if it does not show up tomorrow or if it does and its not good they will ship out a replacement order asap probably next week or give me a full refund. But being pregnant and emotional I have been crying all morning. The thought of those poor babies and my kids upset because after weeks and weeks of looking and waiting for chicks from other places we got no where. We find them, order them and are expecting them and yet again, heartbreak. These babies were supposed to be for my 7 year old to start into 4H with and be able to show in winter/spring. And she is such an emotional little girl anyway it really hard on her. She woke up at 6am to ask me if I heard from the PO yet........

I wish I could just find a breeder of silkies locally as I cannot drive far at this point because of my pregnancy but I was really hoping to have them out of the brooder by the time my baby comes. And we tried the whole CL thing for months. We got an adult silkie but she is so wild my kids cannot even hardly touch her and I think its going to take years to calm her down enough to show....... So it really has to be young chicks so they are raised to the situation and are not afraid of the process.

Well miracles do happen!
I went out my front door to sign for a package from ups and I heard really loud chirping.....
I thought it was a bird nest in my attic above my door that had new eggs hatch or something so I was looking around with the ups guy to try to find where the chirping was coming from and we couldn't find anything.

So as I turned to go inside I was shocked because in the corner of my entry way was a small box chirping like crazy! lol

I grabbed it and rushed inside to open it and inside was 14 very tiny little chirpy fuzzy butts!

I ordered 8 blue silkies and 2 light brahmas but I got 4 extra buff colored silkies! (Maybe 3 buff and 1 partridge?)

All are alive and chirping wildly, a little quieter now that they are under the heat lamp.
most of them have already eatten (chick crumble which I added hot water to) and been drinking on their own.

I am worried though about 1-2 smaller ones because 1 in particular went right for the water and has drank what seems like a lot to me and it still is drinking? Can chicks drink to much and get sick? I did add electrolights to the water especially since they were in shipping for 48 hours.

omgosh! I am so happy they got there for you! I think Id call the PO and complain that the carrier left the chicks like that. poor babies! So glad they made it though!

None appear to have pasty butt. All are eating or have eaten a lot of chick start soaked in warm water. Had their fill of water and they are now under the heat lamp at the other end of the cage quietly (for the most part

) sleeping.
I see no signs of any deformities and all appear to be active once they got warm (its about 70-72 in the shade where they were).

I and my girls are so happy! I'm gona let them rest a while in the warmth and then I'm gona take em out 1 by 1 and do a thorough once over. I wanted them to get some fluids and warm and relax a lil before messing with them to much.
