Oh my God. I've read so many stories and felt bad about all of your loses, and now it's my turn!
First time in 3 years I have an attack
I have meaties, around 6 week old, 4 pounds.. they were attacked this morning I think (really early morning). I live in Quebec, if it can give you an idea of what did it.
I have not found the entrance in the run yet, I just made sure the other chicks were safe. And getting 33 chickens in the coop one by one is not a small task! Plus, they were visibly super stressed and screamed and didn't want me to pick them up. Poor little guys. I know they are destined to be killed and eaten, but killed in a human way.. and until then, I really like them and want them to be happy and SAFE!! I failed on that one..
So.. I found one or two that were partly eaten up. The others just had the eyes removed!!!!
What can do that? I don't have pictures for now, all my thinking was going towards keeping the others safe.
Also I recovered two still living. Now sure what I'll do. I am at work now, with them. One is a turkey and she just has a wound on the back of her head. No brain is coming out or anything, it looks minor, but she's in bad shape. I'm thinking shock.. I guess it was a mess in the run for a while. I'll see later if I cull or not, but the wound seems so small... unless it's head trauma also. Anyhow, I'll deal with this.
I just want to know what kind of animal could do this?
