My baby goose and rats! argg (do not read if you have a weak stomach)

I caught a gigantic female a little while ago who just might have been the attacker. She was in the rat trap and I ended up having to euthanize her myself because she was so huge that the trap just wasn't doing the job. lol I can't stand to see an animal suffer even if it is one who killed one of my animals.

Is it possible that it was a weasel? I realise that rats have been spotted but they usually just don't attack that way. I really don't know much about the situation so my opinion doesn't really have any heft any way, just a thought.

Do you have a cat? If so, it sometimes helps to deter rats and mice if you put some of the cat hair around the area the rats frequent. Of course, it's better to just have the cat itself, but if you don't...offer to brush someone else's cat, or even see if you can get some from a groomer. It may not help, but then, it may make the rats think there is a predator about.
Chocolate is also deadly for rats, as is carbonated drinks.

A rat (i am guessing) got all 3 of my baby chicks last night!

chickenlover88 and curlylocks...I'm so sorry about your loss!

I'm just in tears about that baby goose!!!!!! It's horrible to lose any pet, but to have to see it...I'm just praying for you and your baby goose!! If it's any consolation, please believe that they are in a better place, it's always comforted me anyway.

Prayers coming at you.

Thanks everyone for your condolences, well wishes and advice. Yes I have 2 cats. They are only 12 weeks old so not much rat killing yet mostly just lizards and bugs lol. I didn't have this problem when I had my cat oliver who was hit by a car.

The rat I killed was about the same size as them. lol I have resulted in keeping my goose and ducklings in the house at night and outside in their cage during the day. Not sure that we have weasles around here... I'm pretty sure it was a rat. There are always monster rat droppings around my cages. I once left their cage open by accident after I brought them inside and the next morning there were monster droppings inside their cage. I'm still catching maybe 1-2 rats per night. I think that one monster rat was the culprit though. I'm so sorry curlylocks! It sucks so bad to loose babies like that...Anyone know of any ways to poison or kill these guys easily without killing my dogs cats or other birds? I will try the chocolate and carbonated drinks.
