ok so I have no idea what is wrong with my chick, when we got them both one of them (Penelope) didnt look great... and then she started to have poop stick to her butt and she was very very sleepy, I gave her some yogurt and tried to separate the 2 chicks but Sassy wouldnt have any part of it, she continued to hop out of her box and then go to Penelope, well her butt got better...but her feathers have not, she looks all ragged and moth eaten... I havent seen anything on her and they still live in the house... I wasn sure if it could be fleas because my dogs have had a problem with fleas and we have just treated them... I guess I am hoping it is fleas because I am treating the house and then it should be better... other than that I have no idea what the problem is... she looks SOOO bad right now and I dont know how to fix her... I have been reading about sick chickens and O keep reading that I should dust them but I have NO idea what to dust them with....
I dont know how to post pics here or I would post some... please help if you have any idea what to do...
Thanks so much!
Amy

Are your chicks getting medicated feed ? Is she eating and drinking? Sounds like she is sick. I'm no expert but baby chicks that are lathargic - are in trouble. Try offering her gatoraid or even a little beaten raw egg for protine. Just dip her beak in it and rub her vent/butt to encourage her. If you aren't seeing any fleas on her, I wouldn's assume that is whats making her so sleepy. Good Luck

You can dust them with Sevin dust. There is another brand of garden dust too that contains the same ingredients that I use. It's often in the garden section and isn't labeled for chickens. Look for something with Pyrethrums (spelling?). Get it all in and under their feathers. You might be able to put it in a bag with the head sticking out and do it that way. Try not to get any on their head so they don't inhale it.

I don't think fleas are the problem, but could be mites. Do what galanie said for mites. Do not give your chick raw egg. Is she eating & drinking? Do you have any Sav-A-Chik to put in her water? If not, you could use Gatorade or a sugar-water solution.
If she eats, mash up a hard boiled egg & feed it to her. Or make a slurry of her chick feed & warm water. What kind of chick feed are you feeding her? Is it medicated?

She is drinking and eating some medicated chick food... just not alot, she doesnt like treats or eggs... I will dust her today, thanks!!
