I just went and checked her. Her face is still red. And as for panting, everybody was panting because it's hot out there and they were stupid for huddling up together like that.![]()
My guess is the panting is in direct correlation with the anticipation of being movedin and out each day or the act of.
I too would assume she knows it's time to move. It could just be more scary to her that the rest of your flock. Their earth all the sudden shakes, or even worse, disappears from their feet! Yikes!I'll notice her doing the panting in the morning to, before I take them out.
x2It'll take awhile for her to calm and chill out completely, I'd leave her totally quiet for an hour. Incidentally, my girls face is redder now than when I snapped the picture.
I really think she's okay, hon. If she's not wheezing or crackling when breathing and otherwise healthy she's just growing up to be a big girl! You should see my year olds! Their whole face and comb go from coral/ flesh colored to BRIGHT RED in literally seconds; even getting excitedover a treat or passing hawk will have them red in 3 seconds flat and for up to an hour. Their faces and comb also redden brightly before theylay each day!
These are my flock "protectors" Dino on the left is 18lbs, and Loki is about 9lbs.And I'm not a dog person unless it's a little dog.![]()
You have pretty chickens, @Henriettamom919 ! I wish I could give my girls to you. I'm trying to find them a home because I'm too afraid of all the problems I'm going to encounter. Not to mention I've realized that I'd have to have a dog to guard my chickens because there's too much wildlife around here that see my babies as candy. And I'm not a dog person unless it's a little dog.

It's going to be in the 90s here today, so I made depressions in my sand runs and poured water into them. Later the chickens will scratch around in them and soak up the coolness into their skin, cooling them down. But would that hurt for them to roll in damp dirt?
