This is my sweet Rhode Island Red girl. She and her sisters are about two months old. Both sides of her face are red like she's sunburned! I was holding her this morning and was looking at her and I saw the redness fade away, then a few seconds later it came right back! I also will notice her pant when the others don't. Here's my situation: I bring my chicks inside in the evening and take them out at night because I don't have a safe enough area to keep them in at night outside due to too much evil wildlife. I'll see my baby pant inside the house where it's cooler. Not constantly, she'll pant for a few seconds then stop. No other problems. She eats, drinks, poops, flaps, plays and chases grasshoppers. What could be wrong? This is my sweetest of my five, loves to be held, hugged, petted and given treats so I don't want anything to happen to her.

I'm not quite sure I believe she could be a he. These are a sexed pullet batch from Tractor Supply, the boys are horribly murdered from the pullet section.
But what caused the redness to fade in and out like that? And why do I notice her panting in the house when the others don't?

Oh okay, I didn't see about the panting. How's the poop, eating and drinking? Their comb will redden under stress/heat so my first thought would be stress from a scare or overheating? Are those possible?

I'm not sure about her comb, it's her face I'm concerned about. She eats, drinks, poops fine. When I put her out this morning she flapped around all happy. My little flock hasn't been frightened by anything but me....you see my flock is kinda skittish, no matter how much I hug them. They don't like being caught, but then when I pet them or hold them, they're fine. But my sweet runt is easy to get hold of, she's sweet and calm. She doesn't scramble and claw me to do death to try and get away from me like my biggest girl does. :smack My baby is the only one who cares about me.....especially when there's mealworms in my hand. :wee
