My bantam chicken has swollen feet

I almost list a bullmastiff to ground wAsps. So I can only imagine what a nest of bees could do to a chicken

Id say give it 1/4 cc per 24 hours for maybe 2-3 days and if that doesn't work find a poultry vet or put him on the chopping block.

My first thought: When it lost the toenail, it became infected and the infection has spread through the body. That foot without the toenail looks just like the foot of a raccoon (sans scales, of course) we rescued which had been injured by a dog. The blackened part could be gangrene. I would think a course of antibiotics wouldn't hurt. Oxytetracycline HCL is available at the feed/farm store. It has a couple different name brands, but just look at the active ingredient. The avian vet I consulted once said it's best for respiratory illness, but is still a good all around antibiotic. Dosage information is here: http://www.drugs.com/vet/oxytetracycline-hcl.html Scroll down page to chickens. The only method I found for figuring out how much that is in measures we have is here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/chicago-chicken-enthusiasts/8S_jsBF3ILU/1OIA3o7UYEUJ A discussion of which antibiotics work for what conditions (it's for pigeons, but explains it well. also includes how to determine dosage from the huge packages at the feed store) is here: http://www.homingpigeon.com/article/Dosage.html

The fact that it's in the other foot and the face, though, might rule that out. But I don't think an antibiotic would hurt when it's so ill.

A few questions, though, what climate or part of the world do you live in? What do you feed them? Could there be moldy grains or feed anywhere? (ergot poisoning can cause swelling)
